David Macfarlane's first book, The Danger Tree, won the Canadian Authors' Association award for non-fiction. Under the title Come From Away, it was published to acclaim in the U.K and U.S.
His novel, Summer Gone, was nominated for the Giller Prize and won the Chapters / Books in Canada first novel prize.
His most recent novel, The Figures of Beauty, is published by HarperCollins.
He writes a weekly column for the Toronto Star.
He was born in Hamilton, Ontario in 1952. He lives in Toronto.
Mr. Macfarlane has won numerous National Magazine Awards and a National Newspaper Award.
His play, Fishwrap, was produced at Toronto's Tarragon Theatre. In collaboration with composer, Peter Skoggard, Macfarlane's portrait of the city in which lives, The Toronto Suite, was performed at the Glenn Gould Theatre in association with the Via Salzburg Chamber Ensemble. He is currently engaged in The Toronto Project, the creation of a digital museum of Toronto.
